Possible Causes
Damaged or burnt waveguide cover (mica plate), Exposed metal edges or chipped cavity coating, Use of metal containers or foil, Food splatter carbonized on cavity walls
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Stop the microwave immediately if you see sparks. Unplug before inspection.
- Step 1 – Remove metal objects: Ensure no metal utensils, foil, or containers are used unless explicitly allowed by AEG instructions.
- Step 2 – Inspect waveguide cover: Locate the mica plate on the side or top wall. If it is burnt, cracked, or has holes, replace it with an AEG-compatible waveguide cover.
- Step 3 – Clean cavity: Thoroughly clean the interior with a mild detergent and soft cloth, removing all grease and burnt-on food. Dry completely.
- Step 4 – Check cavity coating: If enamel is chipped exposing bare metal, avoid using the microwave on high power and consult a technician; some damage may be repairable with approved cavity paint.
