Possible Causes

Open or shorted cavity thermistor, Loose thermistor connector, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty control board sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the microwave before accessing internal components.

Steps:

  • 1. Locate the cavity sensor: On many Avanti models, the cavity thermistor is mounted on the top or side of the cooking cavity, accessible after removing the outer cabinet.
  • 2. Inspect wiring: Check the sensor wires and connector for damage, burns, or loose fit. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and control board ends.
  • 3. Test the thermistor: With a multimeter set to resistance, measure the sensor at room temperature. Compare the reading to the Avanti service specifications (typically in the tens of kilo-ohms). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
  • 4. Replace faulty sensor: If the thermistor is out of spec, replace it with the correct Avanti cavity temperature sensor. Route the wiring away from hot or moving parts.
  • 5. Control board check: If a known-good sensor still results in E7, the control board’s sensor circuit may be defective and the board should be replaced.
