Possible Causes

Blocked cooling vents, Failed magnetron thermal cut-out, Defective cooling fan motor, Dust buildup on magnetron and cooling channels.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Unplug the appliance. Do not operate the microwave with its covers removed, as high voltage is present inside.

User-level checks:

  • Ensure the microwave has adequate ventilation, with at least the clearance specified in the Balay manual on the sides, top, and rear.
  • Remove any items blocking the rear or side vents.
  • Clean dust and grease from external vents with a soft brush and mild detergent (do not spray water directly into the vents).

Technician-level checks:

  • Remove the outer cabinet and visually inspect the cooling fan motor and air channels for heavy dust or grease buildup; clean them carefully.
  • Test the magnetron thermal cut-out (thermal fuse/thermostat) for continuity. Replace it if it shows an open circuit when at room temperature.
  • Verify that the cooling fan runs whenever the magnetron is energized; if it does not, test and replace the fan motor or control relay as needed.

Do not bypass any thermal cut-out. If the error persists after cleaning and component checks, have an authorized Balay service center evaluate the magnetron and control board.
