Microwave displays E5 and does not heat; turntable and light may still operate.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: The high-voltage section of a microwave (transformer, capacitor, diode, magnetron) can be lethal. Do not attempt to service these components unless you are trained and equipped to safely discharge capacitors and follow microwave repair standards.
- Step 1 – Basic reset: Unplug the microwave for 10–15 minutes, then plug back in and test. If E5 reappears, do not repeatedly attempt to start the unit.
- Step 2 – Check for obvious damage: With power disconnected, remove the outer cover and visually inspect the high-voltage area from a safe distance. Look for burnt smells, charred wiring, or cracked components. Do not touch the capacitor terminals.
- Step 3 – Do not bypass safety devices: Never bypass thermal cut-outs, fuses, or door switches to clear E5. This is dangerous and can cause fire or radiation leakage.
- Step 4 – Professional repair: E5 typically indicates a failure of the magnetron, high-voltage transformer/inverter, or associated components. These require specialized parts and procedures. Contact an authorized OBH Nordica service center and provide the model number and E5 code.
