Possible Causes
Blown cavity lamp, shorted lamp holder, faulty lamp wiring, control board lamp driver fault.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before replacing the lamp. Do not remove the outer cabinet unless the design and manual explicitly allow user lamp replacement.
User checks (if a lamp access panel is provided):
- Locate the lamp access cover (often on the side or top of built-in models) as described in the SMEG manual.
- Remove the cover and inspect the lamp. If the filament is visibly broken or the bulb is blackened, it is likely blown.
- Replace it with the exact type and wattage specified by SMEG, ensuring it is suitable for microwave use.
After replacement:
- Reinstall the cover securely before plugging the unit back in.
- Test by opening/closing the door and starting a short cycle.
If E15 persists:
- The lamp holder, wiring, or control PCB may be faulty and should be checked by a technician.
