How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This fault presents a low physical risk but can prevent safe operation. Unplug the unit before any panel work.
Unlock attempt:
- Refer to the SMEG user manual for the specific child lock activation/deactivation sequence (often holding a specific key or combination for several seconds).
- Try the unlock sequence with the unit plugged in and idle.
Reset:
- Unplug the microwave for 10–15 minutes to clear temporary logic errors.
- Plug it back in, set the clock, and test the child lock function again.
If E17 persists:
- The touch panel may be sending false inputs, or the control PCB memory may be corrupted.
- A technician may need to replace the touch panel or reprogram/replace the control PCB.
