Possible Causes

Residues from manufacturing on heating plate or inner pot, Odors absorbed into silicone sealing ring and plastic lid, Storage in a closed, humid environment, Food residues trapped in lid components

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Ensure good ventilation when performing burn-in cycles.

  • Initial cleaning: Wash the inner pot, sealing ring, and removable lid parts with warm soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Deodorizing cycle: Run a short steam or pressure cycle with water, a few tablespoons of white vinegar, and lemon slices. Vent steam outside if possible.
  • Air out components: Remove the sealing ring and lid and let them air out in a well-ventilated area for 24–48 hours.
  • Deep clean lid: Disassemble the inner lid, anti-block shield, and valves and clean any trapped food residues that may cause odors.

If strong chemical smells persist after several cleaning and deodorizing cycles, contact Salton support; internal plastics may be overheating or defective.
