The oven overheats – food burns quickly, the temperature is far above the setting, sometimes with a strong smell.

Safety first: Switch off the oven immediately and isolate it from the mains supply. Allow it to cool.

• Verify temperature: Use an oven thermometer to confirm overheating once it is safe to test.
• Sensor check: Test the NTC sensor; a shorted sensor can cause the control to overheat the oven. Replace if its resistance is too low.
• Relay test: With the power off, inspect the control board for a relay welded closed (burnt contacts). If elements heat even when the oven is off, a stuck relay is likely; replace the board.
• Wiring verification: Ensure elements are wired according to the AEG wiring diagram; incorrect connections can bypass the control.

Warning: Do not use the oven until the cause of overheating is resolved; the fire risk is significant.
