Possible Causes
Heavy grease buildup on cavity surfaces, spilled food on elements, blocked drip trays, or a degraded door seal allowing leaks onto exterior surfaces
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see flames, turn off the oven immediately and keep the door closed until the flames go out. Do not use water on grease fires.
- Cool and inspect: Once cool, remove the racks and trays. Inspect the bottom, sides, and elements for burnt-on grease or food.
- Deep clean: Use a non-caustic oven cleaner suitable for Essentials ovens, or a baking soda paste, to clean all accessible surfaces. Avoid spraying directly on the elements or sensors.
- Check door seal: Inspect the gasket for gaps that may allow grease-laden vapors to escape. Replace it if damaged.
- Burn-off cycle: After cleaning, run the oven empty at 200–220°C for 30–45 minutes with good ventilation to burn off any remaining residues.
- Monitor: If smoke or smell persists after thorough cleaning, inspect the elements and insulation for contamination and replace affected parts if necessary.
