Possible Causes

Failed door lock motor assembly, Broken or jammed door latch, Faulty door lock switch, Wiring issue between lock and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. The door and interior may still be very hot after self-clean; allow to cool completely.

  • Try a power reset: After cooling, turn power off for 5 minutes, then restore. Attempt to start and cancel a clean cycle to see if the lock resets.
  • Inspect latch mechanism: Remove the range back panel (for freestanding) or top panel (for wall ovens) to access the door lock motor and latch. Check for bent linkage, broken plastic pieces, or obstructions.
  • Test lock motor: With power off, disconnect the lock motor connector and measure coil resistance (typically tens to hundreds of ohms). An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Check lock switches: Many GE locks have position switches. Test continuity with the latch in locked and unlocked positions. Replace the lock assembly if switches do not change state.
  • Manual release: If the door is stuck locked, locate the manual release lever or rod near the lock assembly and move it to unlock the door.
