Possible Causes

Failed door lock motor, Jammed door latch, Faulty door lock microswitch, Broken wiring to door lock assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off and unplug the oven. Allow it to cool fully if it has been used recently.

  • Attempt a reset: With power off for 10–15 minutes, then restored, try to start and cancel a self‑clean or lock cycle to see if the lock resets.
  • Inspect the latch: Check the door hook for bending or misalignment. Gently push and pull the door while attempting to unlock (with power on) to see if the mechanism frees. Do not force the door.
  • Access the lock assembly: Remove the top panel to reach the door lock motor and switches. Inspect for broken plastic parts or signs of overheating.
  • Test microswitches: With a multimeter, check continuity of the lock position switches while manually moving the latch. Replace the door lock assembly if switches are faulty or the motor does not operate when powered.
  • Manual release (if necessary): Some Salter models have a manual release lever accessible from the top or front once the panel is removed. Use this to open the door, then replace the faulty lock assembly.

Warning: Never attempt to force open a locked door during or immediately after a high‑temperature cycle; wait until the oven is cool.
