Possible Causes

Loose wiring harness at control board, Damaged control PCB, Voltage spike or power surge, Moisture intrusion into control panel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing the control panel.

  • Inspect control panel: Remove the control panel cover according to the Broil King manual. Look for signs of moisture, corrosion, or burnt components on the control board.
  • Check harness connections: Firmly reseat all wiring harness connectors going to the control board (power input, fan, auger, igniter, RTD). Ensure no pins are bent or pushed out of the connector.
  • Dry moisture: If moisture is present, gently dry the area with a clean cloth and allow the grill to air dry completely before reassembly. Do not use high heat directly on the electronics.
  • Use surge protection: Connect the grill to a surge-protected outlet to prevent future damage from power spikes.
  • Test operation: Reassemble, plug in, and power on. If Er6 persists, the control board is likely defective and should be replaced with a Broil King-compatible controller.
