Possible Causes
User‑selected P1 setting for maximum smoke, Inadequate pellet feed at low ambient temperatures, Wind or cold conditions affecting burn stability
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Adjust settings only when you are present to monitor the grill. Do not leave the grill unattended while experimenting with P‑settings.
- Step 1 – Understand P‑setting: On some Cuisinart pellet grills, P1–P5 adjust the auger off‑time in smoke mode. Lower numbers (P1) mean longer off‑times and cooler average temps with more smoke.
- Step 2 – Increase P‑setting: If the grill is running too cool or flameouts occur on P1, increase to P2 or P3. This shortens the off‑time and stabilizes temperature.
- Step 3 – Compensate for weather: In cold or windy conditions, avoid the lowest P‑settings. Use a grill blanket if available and position the grill out of direct wind.
- Step 4 – Monitor performance: After changing the P‑setting, allow 15–20 minutes for the grill to stabilize. Use a separate oven thermometer or probe to verify chamber temperature.
