Possible Causes
Pellet hopper ran empty, auger not feeding enough pellets, excessive ash buildup in the firepot, combustion fan not maintaining airflow.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not immediately restart after a flame-out. Allow the grill to cool and clear unburned pellets to prevent a hopper fire.
- Check Pellet Level: Open the hopper and confirm there are sufficient pellets. Refill with dry, high-quality hardwood pellets compatible with Green Mountain Grills.
- Inspect Firepot: Remove grates, the grease tray, and the heat shield. Vacuum ash and unburned pellets from the firepot and surrounding area.
- Verify Auger Feed: With the grill cool, start it and observe whether pellets drop into the firepot at startup. If not, inspect the auger motor and shaft for jams.
- Check Combustion Fan: Listen for the fan running during startup and operation. If airflow is weak or absent, clean or replace the combustion fan.
- Restart Procedure: After cleaning and verifying pellet feed and airflow, perform a normal startup sequence per the GMG manual to re-establish a stable fire.
