Possible Causes
Burned-out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter connection at control board, Shorted igniter element, Excessive ash blocking igniter heat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool completely before working near the burn pot.
- Step 1 – Inspect burn pot: Remove grates and heat baffle. Clean all ash from the burn pot and ensure the igniter hole is not blocked.
- Step 2 – Visual igniter check: With the burn pot exposed, plug in the grill and start it with the lid open. Within 3–5 minutes, look for a red glow from the igniter tip in the burn pot. If there is no glow, turn the grill off and unplug it.
- Step 3 – Check wiring: Access the underside of the burn pot to locate the igniter leads. Follow them back to the control board and verify the connector is secure. Inspect for burned or melted insulation.
- Step 4 – Replace igniter: Remove the mounting hardware securing the igniter in the burn pot tube. Slide the old igniter out and install a new Louisiana Grills-compatible hot rod igniter, routing the wires away from direct flame.
- Step 5 – Test ignition: Reassemble the burn pot, add a small handful of pellets, and start the grill. Confirm that the igniter glows and pellets ignite within several minutes.
