Possible Causes
An RTD probe coated with grease or soot, an RTD probe loose in its mounting, excessive wind entering the cook chamber, or a control board PID tuning issue.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Use heat-resistant gloves when working inside a hot grill.
Steps:
- Clean RTD Probe: Gently wipe the probe with a non-abrasive pad to remove grease and soot. Do not bend the probe.
- Check Mounting: Ensure the probe is firmly attached to the cook chamber wall and not moving.
- Wind Management: Position the grill so the exhaust is downwind and shield the unit from strong crosswinds.
- Lid Discipline: Avoid frequent lid opening, which can cause large temperature swings.
If instability persists, the control board may require a firmware update or replacement.
