Traeger
Temperature Fluctuation / Poor Regulation
Grill temperature swings widely (e.g., 50–75°F up and down) during a cook.

Possible Causes
RTD sensor placement issues, Grease or soot on the RTD, Controller algorithm behavior, Wind entering through gaps
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep hands clear of hot surfaces when checking the RTD during operation.
- 1. Clean RTD:
- With the grill cool, gently wipe the RTD probe with a damp cloth to remove buildup.
- 2. Check Lid Seal and Gaps:
- Inspect the lid for warping or large gaps that allow wind to blow directly on the RTD.
- Install high-temperature gasket material if needed to improve sealing.
- 3. Avoid Frequent Lid Opening:
- Each lid opening causes a temperature drop and controller overcorrection.
- 4. Compare with Independent Thermometer:
- Place a secondary thermometer near the RTD to see if the swings are real or sensor-related.
- If the RTD readings are erratic compared to the reference, replace the RTD.
