Possible Causes
Damaged meat probe cable, probe tip moisture intrusion, loose probe jack on the controller, non-OEM probe with different calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Probes are low-voltage, but avoid contact with hot grates when adjusting them.
- 1. Compare readings:
- Place the Traeger meat probe and a reference thermometer in a cup of ice water (32°F / 0°C) and then boiling water (212°F / 100°C).
- Differences greater than 10°F indicate a faulty probe.
- 2. Inspect the cable:
- Check for cuts, kinks, or melted insulation.
- 3. Check the probe jack:
- Unplug and reinsert the probe into the controller jack several times.
- 4. Replace the probe:
- Use an OEM Traeger meat probe compatible with your controller.
