Lockout Due to Repeated Ignition Failures
E17
Heater shows E17 and stops heating; the water temperature may overshoot or undershoot the setpoint.
Thermostat Calibration / Sensor Mismatch Fault
E18
Heater displays E18; pump is running, but the heater does not respond to heat demand.
Flow Switch Stuck Closed / Safety Logic Fault
E19
Heater displays E19; the display may flicker or buttons may not respond correctly.
User Interface / Keypad Fault
E20
Heater displays E20 and will not start; this often occurs after a lightning storm or power surge.
EEPROM / Configuration Memory Error
Symptom
Heater cabinet shows signs of rust, corrosion, or paint blistering around the exhaust area.
Corrosive Flue Gas Condensation
Symptom
Heater display works but buttons do not respond or respond intermittently.
Keypad / Control Panel Malfunction
Symptom
Heater does not respond when external pool automation calls for heat, but works in manual mode.
External Control Integration Issue
Symptom
Heater fan runs but burner does not light; no error code is displayed.
Silent Ignition Failure
Symptom
Heater frequently shuts down with no code when the pump speed is reduced on a variable-speed pump.
Low Flow at Reduced Pump Speed
Symptom
Heater operates but causes noticeable vibration or rattling noises in the cabinet.
Mechanical Vibration / Loose Components
Symptom
Heater produces soot, black staining on the exhaust, or yellow/orange flames.
Incomplete Combustion / Sooting
Symptom
Heater runs but spa temperature overshoots the setpoint significantly before shutting off.
Temperature Overshoot / Control Lag
Symptom
Heater shows signs of internal sooting and corrosion after using saltwater chlorination.
Corrosion from Saltwater / Aggressive Atmosphere
Symptom
Heater shuts down when it rains or in very humid conditions, then works again when dry.
Moisture-Induced Electrical Fault
Symptom
Heater trips the electrical breaker when it starts or shortly after.
Electrical Short / Overcurrent
Symptom
The heater causes a noticeable drop in pool water flow or triggers pump overload when it runs.
Hydraulic Restriction Through Heater
Symptom
The heater emits a strong gas smell around the unit, especially near the burner compartment.
Gas Leak / Combustion Gas Escape
Symptom
The heater is leaking water from the bottom of the cabinet.
Internal Water Leak
Symptom
The heater makes loud banging or knocking noises during operation.
Kettling / Boiling in Heat Exchanger
Symptom
The heater runs, but the pool water does not reach the set temperature or heats very slowly.
Insufficient Heating Capacity / Underperformance
Symptom
The heater starts and stops frequently in short cycles without maintaining a stable temperature.
Short Cycling
Symptom
The heater will not start at all; the display is blank and no lights are on.
