Loss of Prime / Air Ingress on Suction Side
Pump runs but there is no water flow; the pump basket does not fill with water.

Possible Causes
Low pool water level, air leak at pump lid O-ring, loose suction union, cracked suction pipe or fittings.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the pump before opening the lid or unions.
- 1. Check water level: Ensure the pool water is high enough to cover the skimmer opening. Top up if necessary.
- 2. Inspect pump lid and O-ring: Remove the Espa pump lid, clean the O-ring and sealing surfaces, and apply a thin layer of silicone-based lubricant. Replace a flattened or cracked O-ring.
- 3. Tighten suction unions: Hand-tighten the unions on the suction side of the pump. Do not overtighten to the point of cracking.
- 4. Prime the pump: Fill the pump housing completely with water, reinstall the basket and lid, then restart the pump. Watch for a solid water column forming in the lid.
- 5. Check for suction leaks: If bubbles persist under the lid, inspect all suction-side fittings and joints for hairline cracks or leaks and repair or replace as needed.
