Flowclear Suction Air Leak

The pump is running, but large amounts of air bubbles are visible at the pool return.

Possible Causes

Loose hose clamps on the suction side, cracked Flowclear suction hose, damaged pump lid O-ring, low pool water level drawing air into the skimmer.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the pump before tightening fittings.

Steps:

  • 1. Check water level: Ensure the pool water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening so the Flowclear skimmer does not draw air.
  • 2. Inspect suction hose: Examine the hose from the pool to the pump for cracks, pinholes, or loose connections. Replace damaged hoses and tighten hose clamps on Flowclear adapters.
  • 3. Pump lid seal: Remove the pump lid, clean the O-ring and sealing surfaces, and apply a thin layer of pool-safe silicone lubricant. Reinstall the lid firmly.
  • 4. Check fittings: Tighten all threaded and quick-connect fittings on the suction side. Use Teflon tape on threaded connections if they are seeping air.
  • 5. Re-prime: Fill the pump housing with water and restart. Observe the return; a small amount of residual air is normal initially, but bubbles should diminish.
