Possible Causes

Clogged pump basket, Clogged skimmer basket, Dirty or clogged filter, Closed or partially closed suction/return valves

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the pool equipment breaker before opening the pump or filter. Never run the pump with valves closed.

  • Check water level: Ensure pool water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening so the skimmer doesn’t suck air.
  • Clean skimmer and pump baskets:
    • Open skimmer lids and remove debris from skimmer baskets.
    • Open the Jandy pump lid by loosening the locking ring; remove and clean the pump strainer basket thoroughly.
    • Inspect the pump lid O-ring; clean and lubricate with pool-safe silicone if dry or dirty, then reinstall.
  • Check valves and suction lines:
    • Verify Jandy NeverLube or other suction/return valves are fully open to the main drain and/or skimmer.
    • Make sure any 3-way valves are not set to “closed” on the main suction line.
  • Backwash or clean the filter:
    • If you have a Jandy DEV/DEL DE filter or Jandy CL/CV cartridge filter, check the pressure gauge.
    • If pressure is 8–10 psi higher than clean pressure, backwash (DE/sand) or clean cartridges.
  • Prime the pump:
    • Fill the pump strainer housing with water using a hose.
    • Reinstall lid, open all valves, restore power, and start the pump.
  • If FLO persists: Inspect for suction-side air leaks (bubbles in pump lid), collapsed suction hose, or partially blocked main drain line. If you cannot restore normal flow, contact a pool professional.
