Possible Causes
Air leak at suction unions or lid, Check valve missing or leaking on suction line, Pump installed above water level, Cracked suction pipe
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the pump before tightening fittings or opening the lid.
- Inspect for leaks: With the system off, look for slow drips or damp areas on the suction side. Any water leak can also be an air leak when running.
- Check lid and O-ring: Replace worn O-rings and ensure the Pahlén pump lid is sealing properly.
- Install/inspect check valve: If the pump is above water level, ensure a good-quality check valve is installed on the suction line and that it closes fully.
- Pressure test suction line: Have a technician pressure-test the suction plumbing to locate hidden cracks or leaks.
