Pentair SuperFlo
Loss of Prime / Suction Restriction
Pump runs but has very low flow or no water movement at the pool returns.

Possible Causes
Pump not fully primed, Air leak on suction side (lid O-ring, unions, valves), Clogged skimmer or pump basket, Blocked suction line or main drain
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump lid. Do not run the pump dry; it can damage the seal and housing.
- 1. Prime the pump: Turn off power. Remove the pump lid and fill the strainer housing completely with water using a hose or bucket. Reinstall the lid, ensuring the lid O-ring is clean and lubricated with pool-safe silicone lube.
- 2. Clean baskets: Empty the skimmer baskets and the pump basket. Remove leaves, hair, and debris that can restrict flow.
- 3. Check valves and suction lines: Ensure suction valves (skimmer, main drain, cleaner line) are open. Try isolating one suction line at a time to see if flow improves, which can help identify a blocked line.
- 4. Inspect for air leaks: With the pump running, look for air bubbles in the pump lid and at the returns. Check the lid O-ring, drain plugs, and suction-side unions for leaks. Tighten unions and replace worn O-rings as needed.
- 5. Filter condition: A severely dirty filter can also reduce flow. Backwash or clean the filter per manufacturer instructions.
