Possible Causes
Clogged pump basket or skimmer basket, Partially blocked impeller, Dirty pool filter, Air leak on the suction side
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump lid or filter.
- Clean baskets: Empty the skimmer and pump baskets completely. Check for hidden debris lodged in the basket slots.
- Inspect impeller: Remove the pump lid and reach into the impeller eye with a bent wire or your fingers (power off) to feel for debris. Remove any obstructions.
- Service the filter: Backwash or clean the filter thoroughly. Note the clean starting pressure and compare it to the current pressure to gauge clogging.
- Check for air leaks: With the pump running, look for air bubbles in the pump lid and at the return jets. Tighten suction unions, replace the pump lid O-ring if cracked, and ensure the drain plugs are sealed.
