Possible Causes
Damaged pump lid O-ring, Loose suction union, Cracked suction plumbing, Low pool water level
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump or working on plumbing.
- Restore water level: Ensure pool water is at least halfway up the skimmer opening.
- Inspect lid O-ring: Remove the pump lid, clean the O-ring and groove, and apply a thin coat of silicone-based lubricant. Replace the O-ring if flattened or cracked.
- Tighten unions and plugs: Hand-tighten suction-side unions and verify that winterizing plugs or drain plugs are properly sealed.
- Check for visible cracks: Examine the suction pipe and fittings for hairline cracks that can draw air. Replace any damaged fittings.
- Re-prime: Fill the pump housing with water, replace the lid, and restart the pump. Observe for a stable prime.
