Possible Causes

Clogged skimmer basket, Clogged pump strainer or filter cartridge, Air leak on suction side, Partially closed inlet/outlet valves

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Unplug the Summer Waves pump from the power outlet before opening any part of the system. Never run the pump with closed valves or without water.

  • Check water level: Ensure the pool water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening so the pump can draw water properly.
  • Clean skimmer and strainers: Remove the skimmer basket and any in-line strainers. Rinse out leaves, hair, and debris with a garden hose.
  • Inspect hoses for kinks or blockages: Follow the suction hose from the pool to the pump. Straighten any kinks and disconnect the hose ends to flush out debris.
  • Clean or replace filter cartridge: Open the filter housing, remove the Summer Waves filter cartridge, and hose it off thoroughly from top to bottom. If the pleats are collapsed, torn, or heavily stained, replace the cartridge.
  • Check for air leaks: Make sure all hose clamps are tight and the pump lid O-ring is clean, lubricated with pool-safe silicone, and seated correctly. Reassemble and prime the pump by filling the pump housing with water before restarting.
  • Reset the system: Plug the pump back in, open all valves fully, and restart. If E1 persists after good flow is restored, the internal flow sensor or control board may be faulty and professional service is recommended.
