Possible Causes

Motor leads miswired at terminal block, Incorrect voltage selection jumpers on dual-voltage U.S. Motors motor, Reversed line and load connections on drive, Internal configuration mismatch between motor and drive

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify with a meter before touching any terminals.

  • Compare to wiring diagram: Open the motor terminal box and compare all connections to the wiring diagram on the U.S. Motors motor nameplate. Correct any miswired leads.
  • Verify voltage selection: On 115/230V motors, ensure the jumper links are set for the actual supply voltage. Incorrect jumper placement can trigger E16.
  • Check line/load orientation: If a separate drive is used, confirm that the incoming line is on the correct terminals and the motor is on the designated load terminals.
  • Reset configuration: In the controller menu, verify the motor type and HP settings match the installed motor. Correct any mismatches and save.
  • Test after correction: Restore power and attempt a low-speed start. If E16 persists with correct wiring, the drive may have an internal configuration fault and require replacement.
