U.S. Motors variable-speed pool pump shows E18 and runs at reduced speed or shuts down when water flow is low.

Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump lid or valves.

• Check water level: Ensure the pool water level is high enough to cover the skimmer openings fully.
• Inspect baskets: Clean the skimmer basket and the U.S. Motors pump strainer basket. Remove all debris.
• Check valves: Verify that suction and return valves are open and that any bypass valves are correctly positioned.
• Prime the pump: Remove the pump lid, fill the strainer housing with water, lubricate the lid O-ring, and reinstall the lid tightly. Start the pump and watch for a solid flow of water.
• Inspect for air leaks: Look for air bubbles in the pump lid and at returns. Tighten unions, replace worn lid O-rings, and ensure suction fittings are sealed.
• Backwash or clean filter: If the filter pressure is high, backwash or clean cartridges to restore flow.
