Possible Causes
Clogged burner ports, incorrect orifice for gas type, low gas pressure, misadjusted air shutter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the burner and allow components to cool before handling. Do not use sharp objects that can enlarge ports.
- Clean burner parts: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean ports with a soft brush or wooden toothpick to remove food debris or grease. Ensure all ports are open.
- Check cap placement: Reinstall the burner cap, making sure it is centered and fully seated. Misalignment can cause uneven flame.
- Verify gas type: Confirm the range is configured for your gas type (natural gas vs. LP). Using the wrong orifices can cause yellow or weak flames. If recently converted, verify the conversion kit was installed correctly.
- Adjust air shutter: Some American Range burners have adjustable air shutters near the orifice. With the burner lit, a technician can adjust the shutter to achieve a stable blue flame.
If multiple burners have weak flames, have a gas technician check supply pressure and regulator operation.
