Possible Causes
User-activated safety lock, Stuck touch key, Faulty touch control panel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No internal hazards for this procedure, but do not attempt to bypass safety features.
- Step 1 – Deactivate child lock: On most Balay hobs, press and hold the key symbol or the dedicated lock button for 3-5 seconds until the 'L' disappears. Refer to the user manual for the exact combination.
- Step 2 – Clean control area: Wipe the touch panel with a soft, dry cloth to remove grease or moisture that may cause false touches.
- Step 3 – Power reset: If the lock symbol does not clear, turn off the cooktop at the breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power and try again.
- Step 4 – Panel diagnosis (technician): If the lock remains permanently engaged, the touch control PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
Do not attempt to short-circuit or bridge control terminals to defeat the lock; this can damage the electronics.
