Possible Causes
Defective thermocouple, Misaligned flame not heating the sensor, Loose thermocouple connection to the gas valve, Faulty safety valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the gas at the main shutoff. Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid open flames.
- Check flame contact: Ensure the burner flame properly envelops the thermocouple tip. Clean burner ports and reposition the burner cap if needed.
- Hold knob longer: When lighting, press and hold the knob for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat and the safety valve to open fully.
- Inspect thermocouple: From below, check that the thermocouple is firmly connected to the gas valve. Gently tighten the nut if loose.
- Replace thermocouple: If the flame goes out as soon as you release the knob, despite a correct flame, replace the thermocouple for that burner.
- Valve replacement: If a new thermocouple does not solve the issue, the gas safety valve may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified gas technician.
