Possible Causes
Heavy grease on oven walls or elements, food spillage on bottom panel, foil covering vents, residue on grill element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy, turn off the oven, open windows, and keep the door closed until smoke subsides. Do not leave the appliance unattended.
- Inspect interior: When cool, remove racks and check for heavy grease or burnt-on food, especially near elements and on the bottom panel.
- Clean thoroughly: Use a suitable oven cleaner or a baking soda paste to clean interior surfaces. Avoid spraying directly on elements; instead, wipe them gently with a damp cloth when cold.
- Check foil use: Remove any aluminum foil lining the bottom or covering racks that may block airflow and cause overheating.
- Burn-off cycle: After cleaning, run the oven empty at 200–220°C for 30–45 minutes to burn off remaining residues, monitoring for smoke.
Note: A slight odor is normal on first use or after long storage, but persistent burning smells indicate cleaning is needed.
