Possible Causes
Open-circuit temperature sensor, Shorted temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness between sensor and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate the appliance from mains power before removing panels or testing components.
- Locate the sensor: Inside the oven cavity, find the temperature probe (usually a thin metal rod at the rear or top). On some Hotpoint-Ariston models it is secured with two screws from inside the cavity.
- Check connections: Remove the rear panel to access the sensor connector. Ensure the plug is fully seated and not corroded or burnt.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Typical NTC sensors are around 1000–1100 Ω at 20–25°C (check service data for your exact model). Infinite resistance indicates an open sensor; very low resistance indicates a short.
- Inspect harness: If the sensor tests good, check the wiring from the sensor connector to the control board for cuts, pinched sections, or loose pins. Repair or replace the harness as needed.
- Replace sensor: If the sensor is out of specification, remove the mounting screws from inside the cavity, pull the sensor out from the rear, fit the new Hotpoint-Ariston NTC sensor, route the wires as original, and reconnect.
