Electric coil surface element will not heat, but the indicator light may work.

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting wiring.

• Swap test:
  • On plug-in coil models, swap the non-working element with a known good one of the same size.
  • If the problem follows the element, replace the surface coil element.
• Inspect receptacle:
  • Check the element receptacle for burns or looseness.
  • Replace the surface element receptacle kit if damaged.
• Test infinite switch:
  • If the element and receptacle are good, the infinite switch may be faulty.
  • Remove the control panel, disconnect the switch, and test continuity between terminals as you turn the knob.
  • Replace the infinite switch if it does not switch properly.
