Possible Causes

Failed ignition module, wet or contaminated ignition electrodes, faulty flame failure device (thermocouple), gas supply shut off

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the gas supply at the isolation valve if you smell gas. Do not use naked flames to test for leaks.

User-level checks:

  • Ensure the gas supply to the cooker is turned on and that other gas appliances are working.
  • Clean and dry the burner caps and ignition electrodes. Spills can cause misfiring or continuous sparking.
  • Check that the burner caps are correctly seated on the bases.

Technical checks:

  • With power isolated, access the ignition module (usually behind the front panel or under the hob top). Inspect for cracks, burn marks, or loose connections.
  • Test the thermocouples / flame failure devices for continuity and correct millivolt output when heated (requires specialist equipment).
  • Replace the ignition module if no spark is produced on any burner and wiring is intact.

Warning: Gas work must be carried out by a suitably qualified gas engineer in many jurisdictions. Do not attempt to adjust gas valves or regulators yourself.
