Possible Causes
Blocked oven burner ports, failed spark electrode, faulty ignition generator, no gas supply or closed gas tap, faulty flame supervision device (thermocouple or FSD valve)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off gas and electricity before working on gas components. Gas work should be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer where required by law.
- Check gas supply: Ensure other gas burners work and the gas isolation tap to the cooker is open.
- Observe ignition: With the oven door open, turn the oven control to ignite. Look for a spark at the oven electrode and listen for clicking. No spark suggests an ignition system fault.
- Clean burner: Remove the oven base panel and burner assembly if accessible. Clean burner ports with a soft brush and ensure the injector is not blocked.
- Inspect electrode: Check the ceramic insulator for cracks and ensure the tip is close to the burner. Replace the electrode if damaged.
- Ignition generator: If none of the gas burners spark, the ignition generator module may have failed and should be replaced.
- Flame failure device: If the flame lights but goes out when you release the knob, the thermocouple or FSD valve may be faulty and must be replaced by a qualified gas engineer.
