Possible Causes
Faulty communication cable, Failed user interface PCB, Failed main power module, Oxidized connectors
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the appliance from the mains. Wait several minutes before opening the unit.
Steps:
- Power cycle: Turn off the breaker for 10 minutes, then restore power. If E6 clears, monitor for recurrence.
- Access electronics: Remove the cooktop from the worktop and take off the bottom cover. Identify the low-voltage communication harness between the touch control and the power module.
- Check connectors: Unplug and replug the connectors several times to clean contacts. Inspect for corrosion or moisture.
- Harness continuity: Use a multimeter to check continuity of the communication cable if you have the skills and tools.
- Board replacement: If wiring is good, replace the user interface PCB first. If E6 persists, replace the power module.
Warning: Do not attempt to modify wiring or bypass safety circuits. Use only genuine SMEG parts.
