Possible Causes
Failed electronic oven control board, shorted keypad membrane, loose ribbon cable between keypad and control, or an internal control relay stuck closed.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panels. High voltage is present even when the oven is off.
- Power reset: Turn the range breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then back ON. If F1 returns immediately, continue below.
- Check keypad ribbon: Remove the back panel behind the control. Inspect the flat ribbon cable from the touchpad/keypad to the control board. Reseat it firmly and ensure there are no signs of corrosion or burn marks.
- Keypad test: If the keypad is separate from the control, disconnect the keypad ribbon from the control board, then restore power briefly. If F1 appears with the keypad disconnected, the control board is likely faulty. If F1 does not appear, the keypad/touchpad is likely faulty.
- Replace failed part: If the control board is determined faulty, remove mounting screws, transfer wires one at a time to the new Whirlpool EOC, and reinstall. If the keypad is faulty, remove the control panel trim, release keypad clips/adhesive, install the new keypad, and reconnect the ribbon.
- Final check: Restore power and test bake and broil functions for normal operation.
