Possible Causes
Failed door lock motor, broken door lock switch, misaligned latch, or wiring harness damage between the lock and control.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before accessing the latch. The door may be locked; do not force it open.
- Manual door release: On many Whirlpool ranges, you can access the latch from the top by removing the cooktop or from the front by removing the control panel trim. Manually move the latch to unlock the door.
- Inspect latch assembly: Check for broken plastic pieces, a bent latch arm, or a seized lock motor. Replace the door lock assembly if it is damaged.
- Test lock motor and switch: With a multimeter, verify the continuity of the lock switch and the resistance of the lock motor. Replace if open or out of specification.
- Check harness and connectors: Ensure all connectors between the lock assembly and the control board are tight and wires are not pinched or burned.
- Control board: If the lock assembly and wiring are good but F9 persists, replace the electronic oven control.
