Possible Causes
Ice maker turned off, Ice maker motor failure, Frozen fill tube, Faulty ice maker thermostat or sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before handling the ice maker.
Steps:
- Check power switch: Ensure the ice maker power switch or arm is in the ON position.
- Verify freezer temperature: Confirm the freezer is at or below -15°C (5°F). Warmer temperatures can prevent ice production.
- Inspect fill tube: Look at the plastic tube that brings water to the ice maker. If it is frozen, thaw it gently with warm air or a warm cloth.
- Force cycle (if available): Some ice makers have a test button. Press and hold to initiate a harvest cycle. If it does not move, the motor or internal control is likely bad.
- Replace ice maker: If the fill tube is clear and the unit does not cycle or fill, replace the complete ice maker assembly.
Note: After replacement, discard the first few batches of ice.
