Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay, Failed compressor PTC, Seized compressor, Main control board output fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is at least 5–10 cm clearance behind and above the fridge and that the condenser area is not blocked by dust or objects.
  • Listen to the compressor: Plug the unit in and listen from the back. A repeated clicking sound every 1–3 minutes often indicates a failed start relay/PTC or a seized compressor.
  • Inspect the start relay/PTC: Unplug the unit again. Remove the rear lower service panel. Locate the small plastic module attached to the side of the compressor (start relay/PTC). Remove it carefully and check for burnt smell, rattling pieces inside, or visible damage.
  • Replace the relay/PTC if suspect: If it rattles when shaken or shows burn marks, replace it with an identical Bauknecht-compatible part. Reconnect wires exactly as found.
  • Power test: Reassemble the rear panel, plug the fridge back in, and allow 20–30 minutes. Check if the compressor now runs continuously and cooling improves over the next 4–6 hours.
  • If compressor still won’t run: The compressor itself or the main control board may be faulty. Further diagnosis requires measuring compressor winding resistance and live voltage at the compressor, which should only be done by a qualified technician.
