Possible Causes
Unplugged or broken thermistor harness, Failed cabinet thermistor, Damaged connector at main control board, Broken wire in door or cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any interior panels or accessing the control board.
Steps to address OP code:
- 1. Identify which sensor: The display or tech sheet will indicate whether the OP is for the fresh food, freezer, or ambient sensor.
- 2. Locate the thermistor: On Frigidaire refrigerators, thermistors are usually behind a small plastic cover on the liner wall or clipped to the evaporator coil.
- 3. Inspect and reseat: Remove the cover, gently pull out the thermistor, and check the wiring. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not cut or brittle.
- 4. Test resistance: With the thermistor disconnected and at room temperature, measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the resistance chart in the tech sheet (commonly around 2–10 kΩ depending on temperature). An open reading (OL) indicates a bad thermistor or broken wire.
- 5. Replace faulty thermistor: If readings are out of range or open, replace the temperature sensor (thermistor) with a Frigidaire‑approved part. Route the new sensor in the same path and secure it in the original location.
- 6. Check board connection: If the thermistor tests good, inspect the harness and connector at the main control board for damage or loose pins.
After replacement, restore power and allow 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize.
