Possible Causes

Open or shorted freezer thermistor, Damaged harness in the freezer door or liner, Loose connector at the control board, Faulty main control board ADC.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the freezer interior or control board.

Procedure:

  • 1. Locate the freezer thermistor: Usually mounted on the rear freezer wall or clipped to the evaporator coil behind the rear panel.
  • 2. Access the sensor: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel if necessary to reach the thermistor.
  • 3. Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for damage to the sensor body or wiring. Ensure connectors are tight.
  • 4. Test the resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure the resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the temperature/resistance chart. A short (0 ohms) or open (OL) indicates a bad sensor.
  • 5. Replace the thermistor: Install a new freezer thermistor if readings are out of spec. Clip it securely to the evaporator or wall as originally installed.
  • 6. If the sensor is good: Inspect the harness and main control board for faults. Board replacement may be required.
