Possible Causes

Failed humidity sensor, Open or shorted sensor wiring, Corroded sensor connector, Faulty main control board sensor circuit.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the ice room or control housing.

Steps:

  • 1. Locate the humidity/ice room sensor: On many Kenmore French-door models, the humidity sensor is located near the ice maker compartment or in the fresh food air duct assembly.
  • 2. Visual inspection: Check for moisture intrusion, corrosion on the connector, or physical damage to the sensor body.
  • 3. Reseat the connector: Unplug and replug the sensor connector several times to clean the contacts. Ensure it is fully seated.
  • 4. Resistance test: If the service manual provides resistance values, disconnect the sensor and measure with a multimeter. Readings of 0 ohms or OL typically indicate a bad sensor.
  • 5. Replace the sensor: If the sensor is out of spec or corroded, install a new OEM humidity/ice room sensor. Route the wiring as originally installed.
  • 6. If the sensor appears good: The main control board may be misinterpreting the signal. Board diagnosis or replacement may be required by a technician.
