Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator and turn off the household water supply before working on water lines.
- Identify leak source: Pull the unit out and inspect underneath and behind while someone pours a small amount of water into the freezer drain trough (if accessible).
- Clear defrost drain: In the freezer, remove the rear panel and locate the drain hole under the evaporator. Use warm water and a turkey baster to flush the drain until it flows freely to the drain pan.
- Check water connections: Inspect the water inlet valve, filter housing, and plastic tubing for drips while the water is turned on.
Replace any cracked tubing or leaking fittings. If the drain repeatedly clogs, a Maytag drain heater kit or updated drain tube may be required.
