Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole with food debris or ice, Drain tube is kinked or misaligned, Drain heater (if fitted) is not working, Improper leveling is causing water to collect
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and place towels to catch the water.
Steps:
- 1. Locate the drain hole: It is usually at the rear center of the refrigerator or freezer compartment, below the evaporator cover.
- 2. Clear visible debris: Remove any food particles or sludge from the drain opening.
- 3. Flush with warm water: Use a turkey baster or syringe to flush warm (not boiling) water through the drain until it flows freely into the drain pan at the rear.
- 4. Check the rear drain tube: At the back of the unit, ensure the drain tube is properly inserted into the drip tray and is not kinked.
- 5. Level the appliance: Adjust the feet so that water flows naturally toward the drain.
Warning: Do not use metal objects to poke the drain; you can puncture the liner or tubing.
