Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the fan area. Moving blades can cause injury.

Steps to diagnose and fix E7 (evaporator fan):

  • Access the evaporator fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel. The fan is mounted on or near the evaporator cover.
  • Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan housing or blades. If present, defrost the area using warm air and towels. Do not pry ice with sharp tools.
  • Spin the fan by hand: With power off, gently rotate the blades. They should spin freely without grinding or resistance. If stiff or seized, the motor is likely faulty.
  • Test the fan motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, also check for correct supply voltage from the PCB when briefly powered (only if you are experienced and can do so safely).
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness for damage where it passes through the cabinet and near the fan housing.
  • Replace the evaporator fan motor: Install a new Vestfrost-compatible fan motor and reassemble the housing. Ensure the blades do not contact any plastic parts.

After repair: Restore power and confirm that the fan runs during compressor operation and that E7 clears.
