American Standard
Room Temperature Sensing / Calibration Issue
The thermostat's temperature reading is inaccurate compared to the actual room temperature.

Possible Causes
Thermostat installed near a heat source or draft, Internal sensor drift, Incorrect calibration offset, Wall cavity drafts behind the thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Only low-voltage work is involved; turn off power if removing the thermostat from the wall.
- Compare with reliable thermometer: Place a digital thermometer near the thermostat and compare readings after 15–20 minutes.
- Adjust calibration: In the thermostat settings, use the temperature offset or calibration feature to correct minor differences (e.g., ±2°F).
- Seal wall opening: Remove the thermostat and use foam or putty to seal the hole in the wall behind it to prevent drafts from affecting the sensor.
- Relocate thermostat: If installed near windows, exterior walls, or supply vents, consider relocating it to an interior wall in a representative area. This is best done by a technician.
Note: If readings are wildly inaccurate even in a good location, the internal sensor may be failing, and the thermostat should be replaced.
