Possible Causes
Thermostat installed above heat source (radiator, towel rail), Blocked ventilation slots causing heat build-up, Internal component overheating, Direct sunlight on thermostat for extended periods
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before relocating or opening the thermostat.
Steps to check:
- Check mounting location: Ensure the Salus thermostat is not mounted directly above a radiator, on a chimney breast, or in a cupboard with a boiler. Relocate to an internal wall about 1.5m above floor level, away from direct heat sources.
- Inspect ventilation: Make sure the air vents on the thermostat housing are not blocked by paint, wallpaper, or furniture. Clean dust from vents with a soft brush.
- Check for direct sunlight: If the thermostat is in a south-facing position, consider fitting a small shade or relocating it to avoid solar gain.
- Allow cooling: Power off the unit and allow it to cool for 30–60 minutes. Restore power and observe if E7 returns under normal room conditions.
Resolution: If E7 recurs in a suitable location with good ventilation, the internal temperature sensing or power components may be faulty. Replace the thermostat head.
